Empowering Emerging Voices: Building Research and Publication Skills in Kurdish Studies workshop series funded by the British Academy (2025-2027) and co-organised by University of St Andrews, Queen Margaret University and Kurdish Studies Center invites applications from aspiring scholars in the field of Kurdish Studies. This initiative seeks to enhance participants’ research and publication skills through hands-on training, mentorship, and networking with leading academic mentors and editors from international journals in Kurdish Studies.
Summary of the Project
These workshops are designed to bring together aspiring scholars in Kurdish Studies to contribute to their research and publication skills through collaboration with academic mentors and editors from leading journals and publication houses in the field. The primary objective is to provide training and one-on-one mentorship and create networking that builds enduring and meaningful connections between scholars from the Global North and South. This initiative strives to support the professional growth of emerging Kurdish researchers while enriching the field of Kurdish Studies with “insider perspectives”. The workshops aim to facilitate the publication of scholarly articles and books in well-regarded international outlets. Beyond refining publication skills, participants will gain valuable insights and expertise for crafting compelling job applications and funding proposals, equipping participants with the expertise needed to advance their academic careers.
Objectives
Participants will have the opportunity to gain expert training in research methodologies, academic writing, and publishing strategies, enhancing their skill set for successful academic careers. They will also benefit from one-on-one mentorship with distinguished scholars and editors and reviewers from leading international journals in Kurdish Studies. Through networking opportunities, participants can build strong academic connections with scholars, editors, and mentors from diverse backgrounds. In addition, they will receive practical advice on publishing articles and books in well-regarded international outlets, while also developing crucial skills for job applications and funding proposals, all of which are essential for advancing their careers in Kurdish Studies.
Eligibility Criteria
- Early-career scholars, postgraduates, or doctoral candidates with a focus on Kurdish Studies (see the themes below).
- Applicants must have been working on or completed research project or manuscript related to one of the themes.
- Researchers with limited experience in publishing in international academic outlets are encouraged to apply.

Application Process
Interested scholars are invited to submit a research summary (max 600 words) that highlights their current work in Kurdish Studies, as well as a brief statement outlining their academic background, motivation for attending the workshop, and how they aim to benefit from the experience.
